From the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges to the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism, and to the China-Russia Years of Culture have continued unfolding, looking back to 2024, China has been constantly weaving the ties of Chinese culture connecting the world.
Looking ahead to 2025, the China-Japan-South Korea Cultural Exchange Year, the China-Saudi Arabia Year of Culture, and the China-Bangladesh Year of People-to-People Exchanges will be held one after another. Experts from many countries generally predict that China will expand the breadth and depth of people-to-people exchanges, especially in promoting global multicultural understanding, strengthening youth exchanges, and promoting international cooperation.
"By promoting mutual understanding, respect, and trust, we can deepen solidarity and friendship among countries. In this sense, China's people-to-people exchanges based on diversified approaches are entering a new stage." Atsushi Koketsu, Professor Emeritus of Yamaguchi University in Japan, said in an interview with China Youth Daily that in 2025, China's people-to-people exchanges will play an even more important role as a bridge connecting the world's cultures and people's hearts.

Referring to the upcoming China-Japan-South Korea Cultural Exchange Year, Koketsu said, "It should be an important task for China's people-to-people exchanges in 2025." Under this framework, China, Japan, and South Korea need to hold dialogue meetings to exchange research results and to gain a deeper understanding of each other's history and culture. On the other hand, the three countries should hold lectures and talks at universities in an organized and planned manner, which can be achieved by setting up seminars or dialogues, or by establishing a fund for aspiring individuals who are committed to friendly exchanges between the three countries.
"The youth are carrying the burden of the future." Koketsu emphasized that youth-centered exchanges are most desirable. Strengthening exchanges between young people from different countries promotes cross-cultural understanding and lays the foundation for future international cooperation. In this regard, he proposed the establishment of a platform such as the "China-Japan-South Korea Youth Home", which would provide opportunities for regular exchanges between young people from the three countries, and facilitate the exchange of their cultural views and in-depth discussions on global issues of common concern.
According to the Joint Declaration of the Ninth ROK-Japan-China Trilateral Summit issued in May 2024, these three countries agree to strive to increase the number of people-to-people exchanges among the three countries to 40 million by 2030 through promoting exchange including culture, tourism and education. Since 2024, China has introduced a series of favorable visa-free transit policies, attracting global tourists to China. "China Travel" has become a buzzword on social media worldwide with more and more tourists sharing what they see of the real China.
Koketsu said that deepening cultural understanding through the voices of tourists has a more far-reaching impact than media advertising and coverage. "This kind of word-of-mouth communication can accelerate the growth of tourist numbers, creating a virtuous cycle. If reciprocal visits between nationals can continue, cognitive biases and misunderstandings between countries will gradually disappear over time. I believe that free travel and free exchange will certainly create opportunities for Asia's common development and lead Asian societies to mature prosperity.
